The Aliens Are Coming
This week has seen a flurry of reporting about the UFO phenomenon, largely as a result of allegations The Debrief in which are at least slightly more credible than the run-of-the-mill reporting in this area. So what do we think?
As often happens, the folks at XKCD sum up our thoughts:
The allegation in the article is that the US government has, for years, had samples of alien technology and materials. Let's be frank, I want this to be true. Because if it is true, we certainly have not seen the kind of step changes in technical capabilities which we would expect had we in fact had intact samples of radically advanced (e.g. interstellar-capable) technology for decades. The only way it could be true is if the alien technology is so far beyond our own that it might as well be magic. And I am frankly more scared that there aren't that many truly revolutionary discoveries left to be made in the realm of applied physics than I am of the idea that there are super-advanced aliens out there spying on us.
